a little bit about me..
Hi! Nice to meet you :-) Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Cassie (or Cass to some) and I am a 24-year old portrait editorial photographer based in Omaha, Nebraska. I was born and raised in Omaha and graduated in 2020 from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Humanities and a minor in Psychology. With this, I am a full-time Compliance Analyst in Pharmaceutical Operations. Some fun facts about me are that I love music (big festival goer), snowboarding/skiing is my favorite sport, I love to thrift my clothes/furniture, and I have 2 kitties and 1 dog.
Now, I know what you’re thinking.. "At what point in the timeline does photography come in for this girl?"
Well, I’d be happy to tell you in a longer, lengthier version.
How it really went down:
I first got into photography at the fresh age of 12 years old. I was big into YouTube and always wanted to follow my favorite YouTubers' footsteps. So, one Christmas morning, I received my first DSLR camera from my dad and I couldn’t wait to start making YouTube videos! I would make my own music videos, home movies, and remix videos with my friends. Flash forward to my high school era, I started shifting my interest more into still photography, and even took a photography class offered by my middle school at the time. I started using my same camera but for a different purpose this time - taking photos of my cats, dogs, parents, friends, cars, trees, you name it. It was pretty amazing to me how clear of a shot a camera could actually capture, almost looking better than the real deal (It didn’t help that I started wearing glasses in elementary school). This process was so intriguing to me that I continued to take photos of pretty much anything and everything in my sight trying to make the scene look as cinematic as possible.
Years go by and my camera had unfortunately collected lots of dust bunnies, being neglected for quite a while. I started college, worked 2 part time jobs, had roommates, and was honestly too busy to think about my camera, or any of my hobbies for that matter (I realized later on that you should never put your hobbies on the back burner, they are just as important too!) Once COVID hit, I started to get really bored staying indoors, not seeing my friends, and really just trying to adapt to what we had to call our “new normal” for a bit. I picked up my dusty, bulky, dinosaur-aged camera and began the process all over again, but this time the passion felt different. I started taking photography very seriously in the last year of college , when some coworkers of mine convinced me to start a photography page after doing several shots for graduating seniors. I still remember to this day of creating my name on a whim as I sat in my car waiting for my shift to start, and then snappedbycass was born.
Flash forward to today, I have since conducted over 100+ shoots ranging from seniors, families, couples, portraits, to fashion editorial. I’ve discovered that fashion editorial is my JAM. I’ve had the privilege of working with many talented individuals all over the midwest, including many models belonging to a local agency in Omaha called Develop Models. While it has taken me nearly 2 whole years to figure out my niche in the photography world, I wouldn’t change a single thing of what led me to where I am today. To me, the best part about fashion photography is making your vision become a reality. I usually start by location scouting (the most important part to me), then I brainstorm unique posing, then from there I will choose to prospect/accept inquiries from models! I believe that background and scene set-up are equally as important to the model and fashion, which is why I love the challenge of creating the scene, it is truly a work of art.
When I am not doing photography, I am usually drinking iced lattes, thrift shopping new outfits or side tables, walking my dogs (Daisy and Gemma), playing with my cats (Gracie and Wrigley), listening to music (my favorites are Eyedress, Gothbabe, Tame Impala, Vampire Weekend, and Part Time just to name a few), hanging out with friends, and traveling. A few facts about me are that I’ve been to 2 countries (Greece and Philippines) and visited 15 states in the U.S. including living in Hawaii almost every summer in high school with my cousins. In college, I was on the UNL Equestrian team before transferring to UNO. I am a big thrift antique lover (my entire apartment consists of second-hand items). I absolutely LOVE music festivals; I’ve been to Lollapalooza, Hangout Fest, Hinterland, and MAHA. My favorite genres of music have to be Indie, House, and Alternative (still have love for R&B, Old School Rap, and Reggae). I've snowboarded in Copper and Steamboat, hoping for more trips soon. And last but not least, I have visited almost every coffee shop in Omaha, so if you ever need the rundown on a place before you try it, I will be your personal Yelp reviewer. That is pretty much me in a nutshell!
some photos of myself and friends :-)
